Frequently asked questions

Is Acupuncture painful?

No, Acupuncture should not be a painful experience.  Sometimes, certain points may feel more tender than others but essentially your treatment should be relatively painless.  There may be a momentary sensation when the needle is inserted, but it is different for everyone.

Are there any side effects?

Sometimes there may be a tingling sensation around some of the acupuncture points after your session is over.   There are no significant long term side effects of Acupuncture.  Any risks will be highlighted before treatment.

How long do the effects last?

The positive effects of Acupuncture can last for days to weeks to months.  Depending on what is being treated and Acupuncture after-care, results can vary.

What should I wear?

Loose fitting clothing.  Acupuncture points are located all over the body, and any can be called upon depending on what your individual needs are that day.  If certain points can’t be accessed, you may be asked to undress and drape the body with a sheet, or wear a treatment gown.

Do you take insurance?

We currently do not bill insurance.  We will happily print a super-bill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.  Just make sure to let us know when you are checking out.

How many sessions do I need?

It depends on what you are seeking treatment for and how long that condition has persisted.  Typically, for longer-standing, more chronic  conditions it may take more visits, and some conditions that have developed more recently may resolve in fewer sessions.  Everybody responds differently and treatment plans will account for any changes to the initial assessment.

How do you know which point to use?

Practice and Experience!  I’ve studied the functions and locations of each of the 400+ points of the body in relation to Classical Five Element Acupuncture through both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.  From the time you walk in to the moment you lay on the treatment table, I am assessing your health and wellbeing and using points to address your specific needs.
